EXCELLENT RESULTS FOR EGG PRODUCER
Kean's Eggs, Huntly Victoria
After the 2014 drought through Central Victoria, Kean’s Eggs needed a sustainable and reliable water source to maintain their egg production facilities.
The Kean’s Eggs combined property of 110 acres houses around 100,000 chickens with the need for daily water to keep up production.
In the Summer months, water usage peaks at around 100,000 litres per day, and quality water is required to keep the chickens healthy and happy.
“We did use dam water, but during the 2014 drought, we ran out of surface water,” Harley Kean, Manager- Owner of Kean’s Eggs said.
“We need quality water and feed every day; otherwise, we are in strife.”
“We had limited options here. We could either truck in water or go the bore/desalination route.”
“We decided to contact Puredrop and put in a desalination plant to service a single water bore on-site.”
The testing showed that the bore water was at 9,000ppm and wouldn’t be suitable for the chickens. Kean’s Eggs needed help to desalinate the water and keep production moving.
“Puredrop Desalination helped with testing the water and with the installation of the unit. Now it chips away all day. Installation of the desalination unit was something that had to happen, it is an investment, and it has certainly paid off. The system does exactly what we need it to do.”
The site has storage for over 250,000 litres of desalinated water, which is pumped to storage tanks at each of the 13 chicken sheds. In addition, drinking nipples line the shed’s interior to maintain a constant water supply for the birds.
For servicing the desalination unit, Kean’s purchase filters from Puredrop and change them over as required.
“Chris and Alicia certainly got us out of trouble with our water right when we needed it. I highly recommend Puredrop Desalination,” finished Harley.
